How to deal

Deal nine cards each from the 36-card deck in bundles of three. The player to the dealer's right chooses the trump suit for the hand, or hands the choice to their partner.

How to play

In trumps the Jack (the Puur) is highest, worth twenty, then the Nine (the Näll), worth fourteen. Follow suit if you can, but a trump may always be played instead. The trick winner leads next. Four at the table play as partners across the table.

How you win

Count the captured cards and five for the last trick: a hundred and fifty-seven points in a hand. Add declared combinations, three or more cards in sequence or four of a kind, and twenty for the King and Queen of trumps played together. First to a thousand wins.

W.F.A. deck setup for Jass

Play without the four 1s, then strip the 2s, 3s, 4s and 5s: 36 cards, the 07 in as the seven.
